From The President
September 21, 2011
Welcome back to the 2011-2012 school year Arkansas School Nurses:
It seems that we just got out of school for the summer and then here it was time for all of us to start back. With the start of school up to August 15, some of you did not have much of a summer break. As nurse do “we monitor and adjust to the changes”. Hope that everyone did get to attend one of the great workshops which were offered this past summer. I attended the NASN conference in Washington D.C., this was my first experience at the national conference and did I learn a great deal. We were able to take a trip to the Capital to visit with our Senators and Congressmen. There were over 500 school nurses from all over the country who went to the Capital. This was to show how important school nursing is across the country. Remember get to know who representatives are both local, state, and national, they are the ones who make the laws and can help school nurse practice.
The up coming ASNA Annual Fall Conference, November 4, 2011, Friday at Arkansas Children’s Hospital at Children’s Hall. This year’s topic is on Diabetes, I know you guys have heard this before, however, with the passage of the Glucagon Bill, ASNA Executive Board felt that this would be a good time for an update. As many of you know I am working with Ark. State Board of Nursing, Ark Department of Health and Education, State School Nurse Consultant, and the lawyers for Department of Education and State Board to write the rules and regulation for this bill. It is a time sensitive process which I will also update everyone on November 4.
The registration forms for the conference and renewing membership for both ASNA and NASN are on the website: www.arksna.com please print off and get the information to us by October 28. If you have any question please feel free to contact me Valerie Beshear 479-597-0430. I look forward to seeing all of you in November.
