Arkansas School Nurse of the Year

Each year, the Arkansas School Nurse Association recognizes outstanding school nurses by presenting three awards:

• The Arkansas School Nurse of the Year Award (RN Award)
• The Lorene Blair Award (RN Award)
• And the Midge Beaty Osborne Award (LPN Award)

School Nurses all over Arkansas go above and beyond the call of duty every single day . School Nurses are putting new and innovative ideas in practice in their school districts each year. These nurses should be recognized. If you have such a person in your district please nominate them for the Arkansas School Nurse of the Year. You may make the nomination yourself or give it to the superintendent, principal, a teacher, school secretary or another Nurse to get your person's nomination started.

The recipients of the School Nurse of the year, Lorene Blair, and Midge Beaty Osborne Awards will receive plaques; all other nominees will receive certificates. All will be given special recognition at the spring meeting of the Arkansas School Nurses Association.

Procedure for Submission of Application:

1. Nomination must be typed, use one side of paper only, not to exceed 20 pages.
2. Nomination form must be completed.
3. Letter from school district stating reasons for nomination.
4. Supporting letters of recommendation. Letters may be from school nurse colleagues, administrators, teachers, students, parents, or others.
5. Curriculum vitae signed by the candidate.
6. A signed narrative describing the nominee's contribution in each of the following criteria:
   • A. Creative school health program/ideas (include health programs that were initiated, coordinated and provided by one nominee, involvement with curriculum development)
   • B. Professional involvement/professional development (include membership in nursing organizations and other professional organizations)
   • C. Political/legislative contributions
   • D. Community involvement (PTA, civic groups, children and youth activities)
   • E. Continuing education participation (recipient of other awards from school, community, other)
