From The President
To All of the Wonderful School Nurses in Arkansas, Today as never before, school nurses are being recognized for their professional contribution to the health care of school children in Arkansas. With the increasing numbers of H1N1, Flu Clinics, plus growing concerns for the health of Arkansas' school children, in addition to doing the state mandated screenings, school nurses are busier than ever. This is a time that we as nurses need to pull together, avoid negativity, and show how important our presence is in the schools. I applaud and commend all of you for the dedication and hard work that you are doing in your schools and for how each and every one of you are growing as "Professional School Nurses". The Arkansas School Nurses Association Annual Fall Conference will be held at the Arlington Hotel in downtown Hot Springs, AR, November 5 & 6, 2009. On Thursday November 5, the "Meet & Greet" will have two speakers and a light dinner, starting around 5:30 p.m. Friday November 6, will be the conference with speakers, our wonderful vendors and a short business meeting. I have attached the agenda for both days, membership/registration form for ASNA, and information regarding the Arlington Hotel, 239 Central Ave, Hot Springs, AR, 1-800-643-1502. Be sure to tell them you are with the Arkansas School Nurses Association when making reservations. There will be a wide range of speakers for this conference, including one from the Garland County Health Department on Thursday evening to give us the latest information on both H1N1 and Seasonal Flu. I am looking forward to seeing all of you again. Please, if you have new school nurses in your district, or know of new school nurses, be sure to share this information with them. Letters have also been sent to superintendents across the state. Register right away and encourage all of your fellow school nurses to attend. Would you be interested in serving your organization and fellow school nurses? There are some positions available on the Executive Board of ASNA. If you are interested and want to get involved please get in touch with me, Kathey Haynie, or Margo Bushmiaer. Congratulations go out to our own, Mrs. Margo Bushmiaer, for having been appointed as a National Association of School Nurses Executive Board Member. Way to go Margo, for representing Arkansas at the National Association of School Nurses and being the National Director for ASNA. Thank you for your commitment to the school nurses of our state and nation. Register early for the Arlington Hotel and for ASNA. See all of you in November. Kathey Haynie |
